About me

Picture
Sierra Merda is a Lithuanian queer anonymous painter and draftsperson currently based in New York City. Her work has been exhibited across Europe, with showcases in the UK, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and most recently in the United States. Rooted in London’s Feminist Punk/DIY/Underground scenes, she was awarded an MFA in Painting (Anatomy Track) from the New York Academy of Art in 2025, where she received the Martha & Walter Erlebacher Award and  Fellowship (2025–2026), the Academy’s highest student honour.

Sierra draws on her experience as a female navigating a world shaped by male-dominated history and aesthetics. She uses traditional language to explore and subvert classical ideals, merging historical iconography with the complex emotions of contemporary life. Humour, vulnerability, and disruption are central to how she approaches beauty and the body in her paintings

Be inspired by, but not competing. Your gods also had their gods that they thought they will never be as good as.

 Art is not about satisfaction and joy, it is about all the unspoken.
 Let yourself out through your media and portray the feelings that hide. They are your real artistic fuel.

 Appreciate that which separates us from one another - creativity. Art is being taken out from education because creativity is individual and individuals cannot be controlled.

 Your financial and housing problems will always be with you if you want to be free.

 Dedicate time for doing what fulfils you and reminds you who you are, everything else is just temporary logistics. It is irrelevant.

 Embrace chaos because chaos is order.
 
Support one another. Don’t keep compliments to yourself. Government ain't gonna help us. A rising tide lifts all the ships.
 
Collaborate and take initiative. More voices are louder.
 
Art is to show the world your way.
